We want to gauge your interest in joining a research and academic networking organisation for Muslims in Australia

About MNARA

The Muslim Network for Academics and Researchers Australia (MNARA) is building a vibrant, robust and inclusive platform for Muslim academics and researchers across Australia.

The initiative aims to enhance cross-disciplinary and cross-institutional research collaboration while supporting academics to amplify their research impact. It seeks to endorse and celebrate members' achievements while showcasing successful academic networking as a model for culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities. Additionally, it encourages the formation of sub-research groups in both social and hard sciences and contributes to Australian society by providing specialized expertise to address national and global challenges.

The initiative also offers mentorship, advocacy, and knowledge dissemination services on a national scale.

Our Journey

ICAN's Legacy

2016

ICAN, established in 2016, began as a grassroots initiative led by a small group of Muslim women academics from various disciplines and universities in New South Wales. The network grew organically, organizing breakfast series and workshops to foster connections among Muslim academics. As interest grew, ICAN expanded to include both male and female academics, organizing annual networking events that celebrated the diversity of Muslim scholars across all backgrounds and disciplines.

ICAN's primary goals were:

  1. To facilitate networking among Muslim researchers and academics across different fields and disciplines.
  2. To offer academic expertise for the benefit and improvement of the Muslim community and Australian society.

AMRN's Contributions

AMRN emerged from a like-minded group of academics in Victoria and Queensland who sought to develop a national network across Australia. Their vision was to create an ecosystem of support with a range of services including mentorship, advocacy, and knowledge dissemination. This initiative aimed to connect and empower Muslim academics and researchers on a national scale, complementing ICAN's strong presence in New South Wales.
